Comply with RegulationsIn 2010, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) launched the CSA 2010 (Comprehensive Safety Analysis), initiative to improve truck and bus safety and reduce commercial motor-vehicle-related crashes, injuries, and fatalities. Now CSA (it now stands for Compliance, Safety, Accountability), is designed to assess vehicles and drivers on seven Behavior Analysis Safety Improvement Categories (BASICs). The intent of CSA legislation is to provide a national system for making US roads safer for motor carriers and the public. The program is pro-active so that, before crashes occur FMSCA can address safety problems. Safety problems are monitored to determine whether a company’s safety record is improving or not, with the possibility of fines for poor safety records. At Webtech Wireless, our customers report how their Webtech Wireless solution helps them meet CSA regulatory compliance in three key areas: unsafe driving, fatigued driving, and vehicle maintenance. Unsafe DrivingAccording to the FMCSA, unsafe driving is “the operation of commercial motor vehicles (CMVs) by drivers in a dangerous or careless manner. Example violations: Speeding, reckless driving, improper lane change, and inattention”. It maintains that driver behavior is one of the largest contributing factors to crashes among transportation companies. With a Webtech Wireless solution, you can reduce unsafe driving well within regulatory guidelines:
Fatigued DrivingThe FMSCA describes fatigued driving as “operation of CMVs by drivers who are ill, fatigued, or in non-compliance with the Hours-of-Service (HOS) regulations. Example violations: Exceeding HOS, maintaining an incomplete or inaccurate logbook, and operating a CMV while ill or fatigued.” How Webtech Wireless addresses fatigued driving is through an HOS solution that ensures log books are accurate. By automating the process, you can pro-actively monitor HOS compliance to identify problem drivers before the FMCSA does. Vehicle MaintenanceThe FMSCA emphasized the need for a pro-active vehicle maintenance solution as well. It describes a properly maintained vehicle as “how the vehicle is equipped (does it have the required parts and accessories) and what shape it is in. Example violations: Brakes, lights, and other mechanical defects, and failure to make required repairs.” Webtech Wireless provides vehicle diagnostics as part of your automatic vehicle location (AVL) solution. For example, Quadrant enables you to identify vehicle issues while they’re still minor and schedule repairs. IFTA (International Fuel Tax Agreement)If your company is still submitting paper-based IFTA reports manually, you are running the risk of heavy fines for inaccurate fuel-tax reporting. Fines can run into the hundreds of thousands of dollars, and once a fuel-tax audit starts, it is almost impossible to predict how long and expensive the resulting audit will be. This risk is removed when fuel-tax reporting is automated. Webtech Wireless’ Quadrant solution provides full integration with ProMiles IFTA, accessing accurate data on miles driven by state or province and automatically generating compliant fuel-tax reports:
